Athar Jaber

Year: 2018
Material: Carrara Marble, Plastic Buckets, Spices

This artwork was inspired by Afro-Cuban sacrificial ritual whereby the severed head of pigs are placed into buckets filled with oils and spices and left rotting at street intersections. The pigs’ heads are here replaced with marble chunks and when exhibited the buckets are filled with oils and spices. While the oils penetrate the stones, the spices emanate a pleasant smell throughout the space.
